Teachers at Champion San Tan Valley are encouraging students to engage in reading every day for enjoyment to build their fluency and love for reading. Ms. Corrigan, Champion’s Librarian, reached out to the Apache Junction Public Library to establish a partnership, giving students access to books in addition to the School Library. Apache Junction Public Library was thrilled to partner with Champion to provide students with this opportunity.

Here’s how it Works: Apache Junction Public Library registers students and their families for Free Library Cards during their Parent Involvement Nights. So far, the library has registered 35 families for library cards. The library cards can also be used for students & families to check out books and participate in Literacy Activities at the Apache Junction Library Book Mobile that will come to Champion throughout the school year. The Apache Junction Library Card also gives families access to all twelve Pinal County libraries, as well as the county's full line of more than one million ebooks, movies, magazines and more.

Literary Activities at the School and the Mobile Library are free and open to the entire San Tan Valley community.

This partnership will increase the number of minutes that students read each day and their passion for reading books that they enjoy. Statistics show that a child that reads 20-30 minutes a day, reads 3,600 minutes per school year, averaging 1,800,000 words per school year, score in the 90th percentile on standardized testing. Let’s Get Kids Reading!

SPECIAL EVENT:  Apache Junction Library personnel will be at Champion School Wednesday, September 25th from 5pm-6pm, registering families for FREE LIBRARY CARDS. All families need is a picture ID.

Here is How you Can Help: In a continuous effort to provide literature to students, Champion is starting a book drive and are collecting new and gently used books.
